I was at the New Glasgow Farmers Market and saw this rutabaga calling out to me, or maybe it was the super cheap price tag that comes with these kinds of vegetables. They often go under the radar, but lets take a closer look at the rutabaga.
It's a root vegetable with a slightly bitter flavour. When cooked, rutabagas become sweeter and taste similar to potatoes. But don't be fooled, these are not potatoes. And keeping that in mind is important. Just like how dave hates it when I pretend that spaghetti squash is spaghetti noodles. No fooling him, or our kids for that matter.
I love the idea of turning these into fries and i thought how perfect this recipe will be in the air fryer.
-- 3 attempts later, I do not like these in the air fryer. I know, I'm just as shocked as you.
I tried all the troubleshooting techniques that left me with burnt or raw rutabaga. The oven was flavourful, tender with a semi crispy exterior that left me happy with this results. I can't wait for you to try it!
